Walthamstow Courtyard

The client came to me with a courtyard garden newly built as part of a wider renovation. But the planting wasn't working, and the courtyard was very much on show from inside the house.

We added opportunities for more greening up of the space with contemporary fibreglass containers filled with evergreens, ferns and grasses. A statement Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku' adds depth and seasonal interest and can be seen from various spots within the house. We filled the inner courtyard with shade-loving architectural shrubs, ferns and ivies. A layer of spring bulbs adds extra interest early in the season.
